80MP medium format digital back — Phase One's IQ2 flagship of 2013.
The Phase One IQ2 80 headed the IQ2 series of medium-format digital backs announced in 2013, refreshing the IQ180 with built-in wireless control. It was sold in fits for the Phase One and Mamiya 645 bodies as well as Hasselblad mounts, and was superseded by the CMOS-based IQ3 range.
Its 80-megapixel CCD measures 53.7 x 40.4mm, the full 645 frame, delivering 10328 x 7760 pixel files with around 12.5 stops of dynamic range at ISO 35-800 and roughly 0.7 frames per second tethered over FireWire 800 or USB3. The 3.2-inch touchscreen handles review and menus, Wi-Fi links to Capture Pilot on iOS, and power comes from swappable 2900mAh batteries.
Within the IQ line it sits between the IQ180 it replaced and the later IQ3 80: the wireless module and improved screen are the IQ2 gains, while the CCD keeps the low-ISO colour rendering that still draws studio and repro shooters despite the narrow usable ISO band.
Fit matters most: confirm whether the back is 645 (Phase One/Mamiya), MAFD or Hasselblad fit before buying, as plates are not interchangeable. Check sensor glass for cleaning marks, verify actuation count and battery health, and expect tethering cables and plates to be costly if missing.
