The RED DSMC2 Gemini 5K is a digital cinema camera released in 2018 in the DSMC2 line. Its dual-sensitivity Gemini sensor was originally developed for low-light work and first appeared in the Epic-W Gemini; the DSMC2 body placed it between the Dragon-X and the Helium and Monstro sensors in the range.
5K Super 35 Gemini CMOS sensor with a larger 30.72x18mm active area, dual native sensitivity with a standard mode and a low-light mode roughly two stops more sensitive. REDCODE RAW at up to 96fps in 5K full format plus ProRes/DNx proxies, RED MINI-MAG media, interchangeable EF or PL mounts, brain around 1.6kg.
The Gemini was the low-light specialist of the DSMC2 generation, and its wider sensor gives a broader field of view from the same lenses than the Dragon-X at 5K. It was widely used for music video and night exterior work.
Check which sensitivity mode switching behaves correctly, operating hours, media bay and fan condition. MINI-MAG media is discontinued and adds real cost. The DSMC2 Monstro offers more resolution; the V-Raptor line is the current successor.
