The RED Epic with the Mysterium-X sensor, sold as the Epic-X and the hand-assembled Epic-M, was released in 2011 as the successor platform to the RED One. It established RED's modular brain concept and was superseded by Dragon sensor upgrades from 2013 onward.
13.8MP 5K Super 35 (27.7x14.6mm) Mysterium-X CMOS sensor, REDCODE RAW at up to 96fps in 5K (120fps in burst), HDRx extended dynamic range mode, recording to REDMAG 1.8-inch SSD media, interchangeable PL or Canon EF mounts, brain weight around 2.3kg.
The Epic Mysterium-X was among the first digital cameras accepted on large theatrical productions, and HDRx set it apart from contemporaries. Many bodies were later factory-upgraded to the Dragon sensor, so surviving Mysterium-X examples are the unconverted ones.
Verify the fitted sensor really is Mysterium-X rather than an upgraded Dragon, as pricing differs. REDMAG media and REDVOLT batteries are discontinued, so confirm they are included and working. This is an unsupported legacy platform priced accordingly.
