RED's 8K full-frame flagship brain — V-Raptor sensor speed in the DSMC3 body.
The RED V-Raptor 8K VV is a digital cinema camera released in 2021 as the first body of RED's DSMC3 generation, succeeding the DSMC2 and Ranger lines at the top of the range. It launched the V-Raptor platform that was later extended with the XL and X variants.
35.4MP 8K full-frame (VV, 40.96x21.6mm) CMOS sensor recording REDCODE RAW at up to 8K 120fps in full format, with a 6K S35 dual-format crop mode at higher frame rates. Locking Canon RF mount, CFexpress Type B media, 12G-SDI output, micro V-Lock battery plate, body weight around 1.83kg.
The dual-format sensor covers both large-format 8K VV and 6K S35 work from one body, and the locking RF mount adapts to PL and EF glass. At release it had the fastest sensor scan time of any RED, reducing rolling-shutter artefacts.
Used bodies come body-only or as Starter Packs; confirm included media, batteries and mount adapters. Check sensor and OLPF for damage, the RF locking ring, and operating hours. The Komodo 6K is the step-down; the V-Raptor XL suits full rig work.
