Ricoh's refined GR — the GR1v with improved LCD and the same outstanding 28mm f/2.8.
The Ricoh GR1v, released in 2001, is the final iteration of the original GR1 series, adding self-timer improvements, a simplified interface, and minor refinements over the GR1s. It shares the 28mm f/2.8 GR Rikenon lens with its predecessors and maintains the ultra-compact titanium body that made the GR1 a reference point for professional-grade compact cameras.
Fixed 28mm f/2.8 GR Rikenon lens, aperture-priority and program auto exposure, snap-focus mode (preset 2.5m), maximum 1/500s shutter speed, titanium body, DX-coded 35mm film.
The GR1v and GR1s are broadly equivalent in daily use; the v adds a simplified exterior with fewer controls. The 28mm f/2.8 lens is the same optically outstanding formula across all GR1 variants. The snap-focus mode remains the definitive feature for street shooting. The GR1v is the last and typically most expensive of the original GR1 line.
Test all exposure modes including snap-focus mode. Inspect the GR Rikenon lens for haze and fungus. Check autofocus accuracy at near and mid distances. Inspect viewfinder for haze. Light seals may need replacement. Battery contacts should be clean.
