Ricoh's early 360 camera — full spherical stills and video for immersive content creation.
The Ricoh Theta S was released in 2015 as a dual-camera 360° spherical imaging device, capturing fully spherical photos and videos in a single handheld trigger. Dual cameras with approximately 14MP total. 1080/30fps maximum video (25-minute duration limit). At 125g.
Dual fisheye cameras combining to produce equirectangular 360° images. Approximately 14MP total effective. 1920×1080 at 30fps maximum video (25-minute recording limit). 8GB internal storage. 125g. No interchangeable mount — fixed dual-camera system.
The Theta S produces fully spherical images in a single capture: the two 180°+ fisheye cameras capture overlapping hemispheres that are stitched in-camera to produce the equirectangular spherical output. The 360° spherical format is directly viewable in compatible software and VR headsets. The 25-minute video duration limit was a thermal constraint of the hardware.
On the used market the Ricoh Theta S is affordable as a vintage 360° camera. Condition checks: stitching alignment (the two cameras should stitch without visible seam), lens elements for marks, battery health. Fixed dual-camera 360° system.
