Rollei's aperture-priority QBM SLR — the SL35E, electronic, 1978.
The Rollei SL35E was a 35mm film SLR made from 1978 as the electronic, automatic-exposure model in Rollei's SL35 QBM line. It added aperture-priority automation to the family and used the Rollei QBM mount, continuing Rollei's compact SLR range built in Singapore.
It is a single-lens-reflex camera for 35mm film on the Rollei QBM mount. The SL35E offered aperture-priority automatic exposure alongside manual, with TTL metering and an electronically controlled focal-plane shutter. Because timing and automation are electronic, the body needs a working battery to fire.
It suits users who want aperture-priority automation in a compact QBM-mount body with access to the system's Zeiss- and Rollei-designed lenses. The automation makes it convenient for travel and general work, while manual mode remains available for full control.
On the used market the SL35E is uncommon and QBM lenses are less common than mainstream mounts. Check the foam seals and mirror-damper foam, confirm the electronic shutter and meter both work with a good battery, and remember the body will not fire without power. Inspect the prism for desilvering, check advance and rewind, and note that electronic Rollei bodies can be harder to repair and QBM specialists are few.
