Rollei's compact QBM manual SLR — the SL35M, mechanical, 1976.
The Rollei SL35M was a 35mm film SLR made from 1976 as a revised model in Rollei's SL35 QBM line, built at the company's Singapore factory. It updated the original SL35 concept while keeping the Rollei QBM mount and the compact styling of the family.
It is a single-lens-reflex camera for 35mm film on the Rollei QBM mount. The SL35M used TTL metering and a mechanically controlled focal-plane shutter, operated in metered manual, so it can fire without a battery, the cell powering only the meter. It retained the compact form of the SL35 range.
It suits users who want a compact QBM-mount manual SLR with access to the Zeiss- and Rollei-designed lenses of the system. It handles as a small, tidy body well suited to travel and general photography, with metered manual keeping it simple to use.
On the used market the SL35M is uncommon and QBM lenses are less common than mainstream mounts. Check the foam seals and mirror-damper foam, confirm the mechanical shutter fires across all speeds with the battery out, and test the meter, designed for a mercury cell. Inspect the prism for desilvering, check advance and rewind, and note that repair support for the QBM system is limited.
