Rollei's top metered 6x6 SLR — bellows, tilt, focal-plane shutter, flash metering, 1986.
The Rollei SL66SE is a mid-1980s medium-format SLR, the most developed metered body in Rollei's SL66 6x6 system. It built on the SL66E with an improved metering system, including provision for flash measurement, while retaining the integral bellows and tilting lens mount that define the line.
It is a medium-format (6x6) SLR producing a 56x56mm square frame on 120 or 220 film through interchangeable film backs. It uses a body focal-plane shutter and offers built-in TTL metering with off-the-film flash measurement, powered by a battery. The integral bellows gives close focusing and the lens mount tilts for perspective control. It takes interchangeable finders and focusing screens on the Rollei SL66 mount.
The added flash metering and refined system made the SL66SE the most capable of the SL66 bodies for studio and location work, keeping the bellows and tilt movement for close-up and perspective control. It suits portrait, landscape, and product photographers wanting metered convenience in the SL66 system.
Confirm the meter and any flash-metering function work on the correct battery. Test the focal-plane shutter for accurate speeds, check the integral bellows for pinholes, and inspect the tilt mechanism, film-back seals, and dark slide. Check the mirror, screen, and finder mirror, confirm foam seals have not perished, and note that SL66SE parts support is limited.
