A classic medium format twin-lens reflex camera from Rollei, part of the Rolleicord series.
The Rolleicord Va, produced by Franke & Heidecke of Braunschweig between 1956 and 1961, is a twin-lens reflex medium format camera using 120 rollfilm for 6×6cm images. The Rolleicord line was designed as an affordable alternative to the Rolleiflex, using simpler shutter mechanisms and viewing lenses while retaining the precision construction and optical quality characteristic of the Rollei brand.
120 rollfilm format (6×6cm, 12 exposures), twin-lens reflex, Schneider Xenar 75mm f/3.5 taking lens, Heidosmat viewing lens, Synchro-Compur MXV shutter (1 second to 1/500s), waist-level viewfinder.
The Rolleicord Va is one of the most capable and refined Rolleicord variants, with the Xenar 75mm f/3.5 delivering excellent image quality for a TLR at this price tier. Stopping down to f/8 produces exceptional sharpness across the 6×6cm frame. A practical and affordable entry into the Rollei medium format system.
Test the Synchro-Compur shutter at all speeds — MXV shutters commonly need cleaning after decades. Inspect the Xenar taking lens for fungus and haze. Check the Heidosmat viewing lens. Test the film advance and crank operation. Inspect the ground glass and magnifier for clarity.
