Samsung Digimax 401 is an entry-level digital compact camera that Samsung released in 2003 as part of its numbered Digimax series, aimed at buyers moving from film compacts into digital photography for the first time.
It uses a 4.1-megapixel CCD sensor measuring roughly 1/2.7 inch, paired with a 3x optical zoom lens covering a 38-114mm equivalent range at f/2.8-4.9. A 1.5-inch rear LCD sits above an optical viewfinder, and photos and short movie clips save to SmartMedia or MultiMediaCards, powered by AA batteries.
Compared with the near-identical Digimax 400 from the same year, the 401 mainly adds sound recording to its movie clip mode. Image quality is typical of early-2000s CCD compacts, softer than later models but adequate for prints and web use.
On the used market the Digimax 401 trades for token sums and mostly interests collectors of early digital cameras. Check the battery compartment for corrosion, confirm the LCD has no dead pixels, and test SmartMedia card reading, since that format is now scarce.
