Samsung — mid-2000s Digimax-series compact with a 3x zoom lens, part of the S-range
The Samsung Digimax S700 is a mid-2000s compact camera from Samsung's Digimax S-series, a family that also included the S500, S600, S730 and S800. It represented Samsung's mainstream compact offering before the brand moved to shorter names like L and ES.
It uses a small CCD sensor in the 7-megapixel class typical of 2005-era compacts, paired with a roughly 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch rear LCD. Images store on SD cards, and the camera offers automatic exposure with basic scene modes rather than manual control, in keeping with its position as an everyday family compact.
As part of Samsung's Digimax S line, the S700 sat below the company's more premium Digimax V and Pro models, favouring simple point-and-shoot operation and a slim body over advanced controls or a longer zoom.
Used examples today are collector curiosities rather than practical shooters, with CCD noise typical of the era. Test that the camera powers on and the LCD displays correctly, and check the battery compartment for corrosion.
