Samsung's entry 10MP compact — 35-105mm-equiv zoom, 2.5in LCD, AA power; sold in the US as the SL30.
The Samsung ES15 was a budget compact announced in early 2009, sitting at the entry point of Samsung's ES line. It was sold as the SL30 in the United States and under the VLUU branding in some Asian markets, and came in several colours including silver, dark grey, white and pink.
It carried a 10.2-megapixel 1/2.33in CCD behind a 3x optical zoom (6.3-18.9mm, roughly 35-105mm equivalent) with a maximum aperture of f/2.8-5.2. A 2.5in LCD handled framing, with face detection, a Beauty Shot skin-smoothing mode and Samsung's digital image stabilisation on board. Storage was SD, SDHC or MMC, and power came from two AA batteries rated at around 150 shots per set of alkalines.
As a simple point-and-shoot it suits buyers after the CCD digicam look without spending much: colours are punchy in daylight, while the small sensor and digital-only stabilisation limit low-light work. The AA power supply makes it a practical carry-anywhere camera since spares are available in any shop.
Used examples are plentiful and cheap. Check the battery door and contacts for corrosion from leaked alkalines, budget for NiMH rechargeables given the modest shot count, and confirm the SD slot and zoom mechanism work. Screen scratches are common on pocket-carried examples; lens errors on power-up are the main fault to test for.
