Samsung's automatic 35mm zoom compact — 38-70mm f/5.5 lens, auto flash, motorised wind, CR2 battery
The Samsung Fino 700 XL was a fully automatic 35mm zoom compact in Samsung's Fino series of point-and-shoot film cameras from around the turn of the 2000s. Like the rest of the line it aimed at effortless snapshot photography, and it now circulates widely through second-hand film retailers as a starter compact.
The camera carries a 38-70mm zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/5.5 at the wide end, autofocus, and a built-in motor that advances and rewinds the film automatically. A built-in automatic flash offers multiple modes and there is a self-timer for group shots. Power comes from a single CR2 lithium battery, and film loading is drop-in automatic in the usual late-90s compact fashion.
As a light, pocketable automatic with a short, slow zoom, it suits newcomers to film and casual holiday or party shooting on 200-400 speed colour negative. There are no manual controls to learn, which is the point; more demanding shooters will find the narrow aperture range and modest zoom limiting outside good light.
It will not operate at all without a healthy CR2 cell, so verify power-up, flash charging and a full motorised wind and rewind cycle before purchase. Inspect the film-door light seals, check the battery compartment for corrosion, and confirm the zoom travels its full range; sluggish or whining film motors are the most common age-related fault on Fino-series bodies.
