Samyang's full-frame diagonal fisheye — the 12mm f/2.8 producing 180-degree distorted images.
The Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye is a diagonal fisheye for full-frame cameras, producing distorted 180-degree field-of-view images that fill the entire frame. Unlike circular fisheyes, diagonal fisheyes fill the rectangular sensor with a 180-degree corner-to-corner field of view. Available under both Samyang and Rokinon branding.
As a fisheye, extreme barrel distortion is the intentional effect. Sharpness is good across the frame for a fisheye. The f/2.8 aperture is fast for the type, useful for astrophotography and low-light creative work. The ED element helps control chromatic aberration. The NCS coating reduces flare. Good coma control makes it usable for Milky Way photography.
Nikon F mount in this listing — available in virtually every mount. The bulbous front element prevents standard filter use. Weight is approximately 500 grams. Build quality is solid with a metal barrel. Manual focus only — no AF or electronics in most versions. The APS-C crop mode on full-frame bodies reduces the fisheye effect.
Affordable on the used market. Check the front element for scratches. An excellent creative and astrophotography fisheye. The full-frame coverage with 180-degree diagonal FOV creates dramatic images. The f/2.8 speed enables night sky photography. Also useful for 360-degree panorama stitching where the distortion is corrected in software.
