Samyang's premium 14mm with extra resolution for high-MP sensors — XP designation with improved optics.
The Samyang 14mm f/2.4 XP launched in 2017 as a premium version of Samyang's popular 14mm ultra-wide, designed for high-resolution sensors above 50MP. The XP (Extra Premium) designation indicates enhanced optical quality for demanding resolution.
Optically very good — sharper than the standard Samyang 14mm f/2.8, especially in the corners. The f/2.4 aperture is slightly slower but the optical improvement is significant. Manual focus with smooth ring. UMC coating. Designed to resolve for 50MP+ sensors.
Available for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. Bulbous front element — no standard filter thread. Approximately 791g — heavier than the f/2.8 version. Manual focus only. Full-frame coverage. 14mm provides 114° field of view.
Available used at mid-range prices. The XP version is worth the premium over the standard f/2.8 for high-resolution bodies. The slower f/2.4 may matter for astrophotography. Check for decentering — ultra-wides are manufacturing-sensitive. For photographers with 50MP+ sensors wanting maximum corner quality.
