Samyang's fastest 14mm — the XP 14mm f/2 for high-resolution astrophotography on Nikon F.
The Samyang 14mm f/2 XP is the premium version of Samyang's popular 14mm ultra-wide, designed for 50MP+ high-resolution sensors. The XP (eXtra Performance) designation indicates their highest stills optical tier. At f/2, it is the fastest 14mm available — a half-stop faster than the standard f/2.8 version — providing more light for astrophotography.
Optical performance is improved over the standard 14mm f/2.8 with the XP designation targeting resolution beyond 50MP. Sharpness is excellent. The f/2 speed provides significantly more light gathering than f/2.8 — critical for astrophotography where every stop matters. Coma control is good. The mustache distortion characteristic of the 14mm design is present but correctable.
Nikon F mount with electronic aperture. Filter thread is not available — bulbous front element. Weight is approximately 800 grams — heavier than the f/2.8. Build quality is premium with metal construction. Manual focus only despite electronic aperture communication. The XP designation targets the most demanding resolution requirements.
Available at moderate used prices. Check clean front element and smooth focus. The fastest 14mm available for astrophotography — the extra half-stop over f/2.8 is genuinely significant for Milky Way work. The XP optical design resolves more detail than the standard version. An outstanding astrophotography lens.
