Samyang's fast wide-angle for Fuji X — the 16mm f/2 for APS-C astrophotography and landscape.
The Samyang 16mm f/2 ED AS UMC CS for Fujifilm X is the Fuji mount version of the fast APS-C wide-angle described in Canon mount under ID 3622. At 16mm on Fuji APS-C, it provides a 24mm equivalent — a classic wide-angle. The f/2 speed is very fast for a wide-angle, enabling astrophotography and low-light shooting. Also sold as Rokinon.
Optical performance is good for the price. Sharpness is respectable from f/2 and very good by f/4. The ED element controls chromatic aberration. UMC coatings reduce flare. Coma control is reasonable for astrophotography. The f/2 speed at 24mm equivalent opens up night sky photography on Fuji X at a budget price. Barrel distortion is correctable.
Fujifilm X mount, manual focus only. Filter thread is 77mm — large for APS-C. Weight is approximately 580 grams — heavy. Build quality is solid metal barrel. No AF or electronic communication. The focus ring is smooth. The lens is fundamentally a full-frame-coverage design — oversized for APS-C but providing the optical quality of a larger design.
Available at budget prices. Check smooth focus and clean optics. Same lens as ID 3622 in Fuji X mount. An excellent budget wide-angle for astrophotography on Fuji X. The f/2 speed is the key specification. The weight and size are disproportionate for APS-C. The Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 is the native AF alternative at much higher cost.
