Samyang's ultra-wide fisheye for MFT, a manual-focus creative tool with distinctive distortion.
The Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 UMC Fisheye is a manual-focus circular fisheye designed for Micro Four Thirds bodies, providing approximately 180° diagonal angle of view — equivalent to a 15mm circular fisheye on full-frame. The integrated petal hood prevents filter attachment; there is no filter thread. The standard MFT version has no electronic contacts, providing no EXIF data, no focus confirmation, and no lens correction signals to the camera body. Focus is entirely manual. At 190g it is compact for a dedicated fisheye.
The optical design uses 9 elements in 7 groups, including one aspherical element. Six aperture blades. No filter thread — the integrated petal hood is permanent. At 190g the lens is moderate for a fisheye prime. Minimum focus distance of 0.09m enables extreme close-focus fisheye framing. No autofocus — focus is fully manual. The standard MFT version has no electronic contacts: no EXIF data, no AF confirmation, and no OIS coupling with the camera body. The circular fisheye covers an ~180° angle of view.
The fisheye's 180° angle of view creates the distinctive barrel distortion and extreme edge-to-edge perspective that rectilinear ultra-wide zooms deliberately correct. For astrophotography, action sports footage, and creative environmental portraiture the fisheye perspective is both practical and distinctive: at 0.09m minimum focus distance, subjects immediately in front of the lens are rendered with highly exaggerated perspective against a 180° background. Focus peaking and magnification on MFT bodies facilitate manual focus at close distances.
On the used market the Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 MFT is affordable as a fisheye prime. Condition checks: aperture ring operation (manual aperture control), focus ring smoothness, and front element for scratches or impact damage — the petal hood protects against direct frontal marks but does not cover the extreme outer element edges. Confirm the MFT mount version; Samyang produced this lens in multiple mounts and they are not interchangeable. Compatible with all Micro Four Thirds bodies; electronic coupling absent in the standard version.
