Samyang's updated AF 50mm f/1.4 for Sony FE — improved optics and AF speed over the original.
The Samyang AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II launched in 2021 as an updated version of Samyang's full-frame standard prime for Sony FE mount. The Mark II improved optical coatings, AF speed, and overall image quality over the original — a competitive budget alternative to the Sony 50mm f/1.4 GM.
Optically good — sharp from f/2 with pleasant rendering at f/1.4. The Mark II improved coatings reduce flare and ghosting. Stepping motor AF is faster and quieter than the original. Weather-resistant sealing added. Good for both stills and video with minimal focus breathing.
Sony FE mount with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 420g. Weather-resistant construction — new for the Mark II. Minimum focus distance 45cm. 9 rounded aperture blades. USB-C port for firmware updates. Also sold as Rokinon AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II.
Available used at mid-range prices. The Sony 50mm f/1.4 GM is sharper but much more expensive. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is the main competitor. The weather sealing and USB-C updates make the Mark II a meaningful improvement. Good value for Sony FE f/1.4 shooters.
