Samyang's updated AF 50mm f/1.4 for Sony FE — improved optics and AF speed over the original.

The Samyang AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II was released in 2022 as the redesigned second-generation autofocus standard prime for Sony FE-mount. Eleven elements in 8 groups with aspherical, HR, and ED elements. Nine rounded aperture blades. 72mm filter thread. At 420g. 0.40m MFD. Linear STM autofocus.

The optical design uses 11 elements in 8 groups (2 aspherical + 3 HR + 1 ED elements — a reduced formula from the original's 13 elements). Nine rounded aperture blades. The 72mm filter thread. At 420g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.40m (0.16× magnification). Linear STM for quiet AF. f/1.4 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage.

The Series II redesign reduced the element count from 13 to 11 while improving AF speed via the linear STM motor over the original's ring-type STM. The HR (High Refractive) elements and improved aspherical design provide better wide-open correction than the original. The 72mm filter thread is larger than typical 50mm f/1.4 designs, reflecting the optical demands of the wide aperture correction.
