Schneider-Kreuznach's fast Xenon normal — the 50mm f/1.5 in Leica Thread Mount.
The Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f/1.5 in Leica Thread Mount is a vintage German fast normal, from Schneider's Xenon fast-aperture line. Examples in screw mount let this classic fast fifty be used on L39 and adapted rangefinder bodies; the Xenon name is associated with early high-speed double-Gauss designs.
It is a manual-focus rangefinder-coupled lens with a 50mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.5. As a fast normal it uses a large-aperture optical design and, in rangefinder form, couples to the camera's rangefinder for accurate focusing on screw-mount and adapted bodies.
At 50mm and f/1.5 the lens delivers shallow depth of field and background separation for portraits and low-light work, with a softer wide-open character that firms up on stopping down. As a standard focal length it also serves for street and general shooting.
As a vintage German optic, used copies should be checked for haze, cleaning marks, coating wear and element separation, and the focus and aperture tested for smooth, oil-free operation. On any converted example verify accurate rangefinder coupling and infinity focus. It adapts to Leica M with an LTM-to-M ring and to mirrorless cameras via an adapter.
