Sigma's Art-line ultra-wide zoom for mirrorless — constant f/2.8 from 14-24mm with outstanding optics.

The Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art was released in 2019 as the mirrorless-native ultra-wide zoom for Sony FE full-frame bodies, redesigned from the DSLR DG HSM formula for the short FE flange distance. Eleven rounded aperture blades. The bulbous front element prevents conventional filter use — a rear filter holder is provided for gel filters. At 795g and no front filter thread it is the Art-series ultra-wide standard zoom for Sony FE. A linear AF motor provides fast, quiet AF.

The optical design uses 18 elements in 13 groups. Eleven rounded aperture blades. No front filter thread — the bulbous front element prevents standard filter attachment; rear gel filter slot provided. At 795g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.28m (single Sigma-published figure across the zoom range). Linear AF motor. Constant f/2.8 aperture. DG DN confirms mirrorless-native full-frame design.

The mirrorless-native DG DN redesign optimises the 14-24mm Art formula for the short Sony FE flange distance, correcting the optical compromises that arise when a DSLR rear-group design is adapted to the short flange: wide-open coma and astigmatism at the corners of full-frame are addressed with the native formula. The 0.28m MFD at 14mm enables very close-wide environmental compositions. The 11-blade aperture produces circular out-of-focus highlights at stopped-down apertures.

On the used market the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art is available at mid-range Art-series ultra-wide zoom pricing. Condition checks: linear AF motor response, front element for marks — no filter protection on the bulbous front — and zoom ring smoothness. An L-mount version (also 795g) is available. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount full-frame and APS-C E-mount bodies.
