Sigma's earlier super-telephoto zoom — 150-500mm with OS before the 150-600mm Contemporary/Sports replaced it.
The Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM was Sigma's earlier super-telephoto zoom before the 150-600mm Contemporary and Sports replaced it. It provided 150-500mm reach with OS stabilisation and APO glass at an accessible price.
Optically acceptable — sharp in the centre at mid-focal lengths but soft at 500mm. OS provides approximately 4 stops of stabilisation — essential at 500mm. HSM motor for fast, quiet AF. APO glass with SLD elements helps control chromatic aberration.
Available for multiple DSLR mounts. 86mm filter thread. Approximately 1780g. No weather sealing. Tripod collar included. Full-frame coverage. Minimum focus distance 220cm.
Available used very cheaply. The 150-600mm Contemporary and Sports are better in every respect — sharper, lighter (C) or more robust (S). The 150-500mm is only worth considering at bargain prices. Check for smooth OS operation and AF accuracy.
