Sigma's Contemporary APS-C superzoom for mirrorless — 24-450mm equiv with OS stabilisation.
The Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary was one of the highest-ratio superzooms available for APS-C mirrorless, covering approximately 24-450mm equivalent on Sony E-mount. The 18.8x zoom ratio provided extraordinary range in a single lens.
Optically acceptable for the extreme range — sharp at mid-focal lengths but soft at both extremes. OS stabilisation helps at the longer end. The f/6.7 at 300mm is extremely slow. Contemporary line build quality — plastic but functional. Compact for the zoom range.
Sony E mount with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 550g. No weather sealing. APS-C only. DC designation. OS stabilisation. Minimum focus distance 35cm with macro capability. USB dock compatible for AF fine-tuning.
Available used at budget prices. The extreme zoom range compromises optical quality significantly. The Tamron 18-300mm Di III-A VXD is the modern mirrorless successor with better optics. Check zoom mechanism for smooth action. Only useful where one-lens convenience outweighs quality.
