Sigma's early APS-C superzoom — 27-300mm equivalent without stabilisation, a basic all-in-one option.
The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC is an early generation APS-C superzoom offering approximately 27-300mm equivalent range. It predates the stabilised OS versions and provides a basic all-in-one zoom solution for APS-C DSLR shooters prioritising convenience.
Optical quality is modest — acceptable centre sharpness at mid-focal lengths but soft at the extremes, particularly at 200mm. No image stabilisation makes handheld use at the long end challenging. Autofocus is HSM in some versions, providing quiet operation.
Available in Nikon F DX and Canon EF-S mounts. 62mm filter thread. Approximately 405g. No weather sealing. DC designation means APS-C coverage only. Minimum focus distance approximately 45cm. Plastic construction.
Very cheap used. The OS (stabilised) version is much more practical and worth the small premium. The Tamron 18-200mm VC and Nikon 18-200mm VR are both superior options with stabilisation. Only consider this if absolute lowest cost is the priority.
