Sigma's APS-C superzoom with macro capability and OS stabilisation.
The Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM is a budget APS-C superzoom, launched around 2009. Covering a huge 29-400mm equivalent range with OS and macro capability, it targets travellers who want maximum versatility in a single lens without changing optics.
Optical quality follows the typical superzoom pattern with good centre sharpness at moderate focal lengths and softening at extremes. OS provides stabilisation. The macro mode offers closer focusing than typical zooms. HSM motor is adequate.
Available in Canon EF-S, Nikon F, Sony A, Pentax K, and Sigma SA mounts. Filter thread is 62mm. Multiple versions exist with progressively improved optics. The Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM offers even more range.
Very cheap used. Check OS, HSM motor, and zoom ring. The extreme zoom ratio means significant optical compromises at all focal lengths. Adequate for casual travel photography but dedicated zooms are dramatically better optically.
