Sigma's compact 13.9x travel superzoom for Canon APS-C with OS stabilisation and HSM autofocus.
The Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM (2009) was among the first stabilised superzooms to reach 250mm. Its 13.9x ratio covers 29-400mm equivalent — a genuine one-lens travel solution eliminating lens changes.
Good centre sharpness at wide and mid focal lengths, progressively softer toward 250mm wide open. Stopping to f/8 improves the long end noticeably. OS provides about 4 stops. HSM AF is fast enough for general use.
Canon EF-S mount, 72mm filter thread. Also in Nikon F, Pentax K, Sony A mounts. DC = APS-C only. Internal focus. Superseded by the 18-250mm DC Macro OS HSM with improved optics and closer focus.
Very common and affordable. Check zoom ring for smooth operation — binding can develop. Test OS at 250mm. Optical compromises are inherent at this zoom range — for travel photographers who accept the tradeoff it remains practical.
