Sigma's earlier 180mm macro for Sony A — the f/3.5 EX version without OS stabilisation.
The Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX APO DG IF HSM Macro is an earlier version of Sigma's telephoto macro for Sony A mount, with f/3.5 aperture rather than the later f/2.8 version (ID 3535). The 180mm focal length provides excellent working distance for macro subjects. APO elements ensure chromatic correction. HSM motor provides fast, quiet autofocus.
Optical performance is very good for macro work. The 180mm working distance is invaluable for insect and wildlife macro where closer approach would disturb the subject. The APO elements control chromatic aberration well. Sharpness at macro distances is excellent. The f/3.5 aperture is slightly slower than the later f/2.8 version but adequate for macro work.
Sony A mount with HSM motor. Filter thread is 72mm. Weight is approximately 980 grams — lighter than the later f/2.8 version. Build quality is solid EX professional grade. No image stabilisation — benefits from Sony's SteadyShot INSIDE body stabilisation. The IF (Internal Focusing) prevents barrel extension during focusing.
Available at very low used prices given the A-mount decline. Check AF accuracy and smooth focus. The 180mm working distance remains the key advantage. The later f/2.8 OS version is preferred but this earlier version is dramatically cheaper. Adapts to Sony E-mount via LA-EA adapters with functional AF.
