Sigma's ultra-fast 20mm Art for Sony E — a remarkable f/1.4 ultra-wide designed for astrophotography.
The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art was released in 2022 as part of Sigma's expanding mirrorless Art line. A 20mm f/1.4 is an extraordinary specification — ultra-wide with a very fast aperture, designed specifically with astrophotography in mind. The rear filter holder allows the use of light pollution and narrowband filters, a critical feature for night sky photographers.
Optical performance is outstanding. Sharpness is excellent from f/1.4, with particular attention paid to coma and sagittal flare control — critical for astrophotography where point light sources must remain tight across the frame. The Art line optical design delivers class-leading aberration correction. Bokeh is smooth on the rare occasions it is relevant at 20mm.
Sony E mount with full electronic communication. Filter thread is 72mm at the front, with an additional rear filter slot for drop-in gelatine filters. Weight is approximately 630 grams. Build quality is excellent with TSC construction and brass mount. No weather sealing. Linear motor AF is fast and silent. The aperture ring has a de-click switch.
Limited availability on the used market as a newer lens. Check AF operation and smooth aperture ring. The rear filter slot is a major selling point for astrophotographers who use light pollution filters. An exceptional lens for night sky photography — the combination of 20mm, f/1.4, outstanding coma control, and rear filtration makes it the benchmark for this specific use case.
