Sigma's ultra-wide Art prime — the world's first AF 20mm f/1.4 with outstanding optics for astrophotography.
The Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art launched in 2015 as the world's first autofocus 20mm f/1.4 lens. Part of Sigma's acclaimed Art line, it was designed specifically to excel at astrophotography and low-light wide-angle work with minimal coma and sagittal flare.
Optically impressive — sharp across the frame with remarkably well-controlled coma in the corners, making it ideal for star photography. At f/1.4 the depth of field is surprisingly shallow for 20mm. HSM autofocus is fast and accurate. Build quality is Art-line premium.
Available in Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. Bulbous front element — no standard front filters. Rear gel filter holder available. Weighs 950g — very heavy for a wide prime. No stabilisation. Minimum focus distance 27.6cm. USB dock compatible for AF fine-tuning.
Available used at mid-range prices. Check for decentering — fast ultra-wides are sensitive to manufacturing tolerances. The 14mm f/1.8 Art is wider, the 24mm f/1.4 Art more versatile. A specialist astrophotography lens that also excels at environmental landscapes.
