Sigma's fast 23mm for APS-C mirrorless — a 35mm equivalent with f/1.4 speed in the DC DN line.
The Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary was released in 2023 as the newest addition to Sigma's acclaimed DC DN APS-C prime lineup. Providing a 35mm equivalent on APS-C, it covers the classic street and documentary focal length with a fast f/1.4 aperture. Available in Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and L-Mount versions.
Optical performance is excellent. Sharpness is very good from f/1.4 and outstanding by f/2. The Contemporary designation indicates Sigma's compact design philosophy while maintaining serious optical quality. Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth circular bokeh. Stepping motor AF is quiet and fast, well-suited to both stills and video.
Available in multiple APS-C mirrorless mounts. Filter thread is 52mm. Weight is approximately 240 grams — very compact. Build quality is good with a metal mount. No weather sealing. The lens is optically identical across all mount versions. No image stabilisation — rely on body IBIS where available.
Growing availability on the used market. Check AF operation. An outstanding fast prime for APS-C mirrorless shooters who prefer the 35mm equivalent perspective. The DC DN line has established itself as the benchmark for APS-C prime quality. The 30mm f/1.4 DC DN is the alternative for those preferring a slightly longer 45mm equivalent.
