Sigma's flagship 24mm prime from the Art line — reference-class wide-angle optics for full frame.
The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art was released in 2015 as part of Sigma's acclaimed Art line. It set a new benchmark for 24mm prime optics, delivering sharpness and aberration control that rivalled or exceeded lenses from Canon and Nikon at a significantly lower price. It quickly became the default recommendation for a fast 24mm on full-frame DSLRs.
Optical performance is outstanding. Sharpness is excellent from f/1.4 across most of the frame — remarkable for a fast wide-angle lens. Coma control is very good, making it excellent for astrophotography. Sagittal flare is minimal. The Art line optical design with multiple FLD and SLD elements delivers class-leading correction of chromatic aberration and distortion.
Canon EF mount in this listing — also available in Nikon F and Sony A mounts. Filter thread is 77mm. Weight is approximately 665 grams — substantial for a 24mm prime, reflecting the complex optical design. Build quality is excellent with a brass bayonet mount and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) barrel. No weather sealing. HSM motor is fast and quiet.
Good availability on the used market at attractive prices. Check AF accuracy — wide-angle f/1.4 lenses are sensitive to focus calibration. The Sigma USB Dock can fine-tune AF. The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is the mirrorless successor. This DSLR version remains one of the best 24mm primes ever made for Canon and Nikon shooters.
