Sigma's older full-frame superzoom — 28-300mm with macro at variable aperture, a pre-OS all-in-one.
The Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Macro is an older full-frame superzoom covering 28-300mm with a macro mode. Predating OS stabilisation versions, it provides basic all-in-one zoom convenience without stabilisation at the lowest possible cost.
Optically basic — acceptable at mid-focal lengths but soft at extremes. Macro mode provides close-up capability. No image stabilisation — a significant limitation at 300mm. The DG designation means full-frame optimised. Variable aperture f/3.5-6.3.
Available for multiple mounts. 62mm filter thread. Approximately 460g — lightweight for the range. No weather sealing. Full-frame coverage. Macro mode. Multiple versions with minor updates.
Available used very cheaply. The OS version added stabilisation and is much more practical. Modern alternatives are dramatically better. Only worth considering at bargain prices where one-lens convenience outweighs quality. Check zoom mechanism for play.
