Sigma's stabilised 70-200mm f/2.8 for Nikon F — the Sports/EX-line version with OS.
The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM is Sigma's stabilised constant-aperture telephoto zoom for full-frame DSLRs. Released around 2010, it addressed the key weakness of the earlier non-OS version by adding optical stabilisation, making it a more complete competitor to the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II.
Optical performance is good. Centre sharpness is very good from f/2.8 with the frame improving by f/4. The OS system provides approximately 4 stops of stabilisation, a significant advantage for handheld telephoto work. HSM motor delivers fast, quiet autofocus. Bokeh is pleasant at wider apertures, suitable for portraits and event coverage.
Nikon F mount version. Filter thread is 77mm. Weight is approximately 1,430 grams — comparable to the Nikon equivalent. Build quality is solid with a metal barrel and tripod collar. Not weather-sealed. The lens uses Sigma's EX professional designation. A sports line version was later released under the Sigma Art/Sports branding with improved optics.
Available on the used market at attractive prices — well below equivalent Nikon or Canon glass. Check for OS motor operation and AF consistency. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 Sports is the successor with significantly improved optics. A capable budget professional telephoto that served many event and sports photographers well during its production run.
