Duplicate listing of Sigma's 70-200mm f/2.8 EX — the earlier non-OS version without stabilisation.
The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM APO II is the second-generation non-stabilised version of Sigma's constant-aperture telephoto zoom. The APO II designation indicates the updated optical design with improved apochromatic elements. Without OS stabilisation, it relies on fast shutter speeds or tripod use for sharp handheld results at longer focal lengths.
Optical performance is good. Centre sharpness is very good from f/2.8 with corners catching up by f/4. The APO elements provide better chromatic aberration control than the original version. Bokeh is pleasant at wider apertures. HSM motor delivers fast, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override. The lack of stabilisation is the main weakness.
Available in Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony A, and Pentax K mounts. Filter thread is 77mm. Weight is approximately 1,370 grams. Build quality is solid with the EX professional designation. A tripod collar is included. No weather sealing. The later OS version added stabilisation, and the Sports version represents a complete redesign.
Very affordable on the used market due to the lack of stabilisation. Check AF accuracy and smooth zoom operation. Best suited to sports and event photography in good light where fast shutter speeds are used anyway. The OS version or the newer Sports line offer significantly better all-round capability.
