Sigma's budget telephoto for Sigma SA — the 70-300mm DL Macro Super for the Foveon system.
The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro Super is a budget telephoto zoom for Sigma's own SA mount system — the proprietary mount used on Sigma's Foveon-sensor cameras. The DL Macro Super designation indicates the most affordable tier with macro close-focus. Very few lenses were produced in SA mount outside Sigma's own range.
Optical performance is basic. The DL designation is Sigma's most budget line. Macro mode at telephoto provides casual close-up work. Centre sharpness is acceptable. Variable aperture limits low light. The SA mount severely limits this lens to Sigma's own Foveon cameras — a very niche ecosystem.
Sigma SA mount — proprietary and discontinued for new cameras. Filter thread varies. Weight is approximately 545 grams. Build quality is basic. No image stabilisation. The SA mount limits this lens to Sigma SD-series and DP-series bodies. No cross-mount compatibility without adaptation.
Very cheap if found. The SA mount limits this to Sigma camera owners only. Not recommended for any other use. The Foveon sensor ecosystem has a tiny dedicated following. Only of interest to existing Sigma SA mount system owners.
