Sony's flagship — 50.1MP full-frame with 30fps burst, 8K video, and stacked sensor. The 'do everything' camera.
The Sony Alpha A1 was released in 2021 as Sony's combined resolution-and-speed flagship, featuring a 50.1MP full-frame BSI stacked CMOS sensor with 30fps electronic burst, 8K/30fps video, and 4K/120fps. The stacked CMOS architecture provides the readout speed for 30fps at full 50.1MP without blackout and with reduced rolling shutter. NP-FZ100 battery. At approximately 737g with battery.
50.1MP full-frame BSI stacked CMOS sensor. 30fps electronic shutter (full AE/AF tracking, blackout-free); 10fps mechanical. 8K/30fps 10-bit 4:2:2; 4K/120fps (with ~10% crop); 4K/60fps full-width. Real-Time Eye AF. 759-point phase-detect. NP-FZ100 battery (~530 shots LCD). Approximately 737g with battery. Dual card slots (CFexpress A + SD UHS-II).
The A1's combination of 50MP resolution and 30fps burst was unprecedented at launch: conventional tradeoffs between resolution-oriented bodies (A7R series) and speed-oriented bodies (A9 series) were consolidated. The stacked sensor provides the readout speed for 30fps without the resolution penalty of pixel-binning. 8K output from 50MP enables near-native resolution 8K video from the full sensor area.
On the used market the Sony Alpha A1 is available at flagship professional mirrorless pricing. Condition checks: NP-FZ100 battery health (shared with A7 IV, A7R V, A9 III series), dual card slot contacts, weather sealing. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount lenses.
