Sony's budget SLT camera — 16.1MP APS-C with translucent mirror technology at entry-level pricing.
The Sony SLT-A37 was released in 2012 as an entry-level Sony A-mount DSLR-style mirrorless (SLT) featuring a 16MP APS-C sensor and 2-axis SteadyShot in-body stabilisation. 1080/60i AVCHD. NP-FW50 battery (~500 shots CIPA). At 506g with battery and card.
16MP APS-C CMOS (23.5×15.6mm). 1080/60i AVCHD; 1080/29.97p. 2-axis SteadyShot sensor-shift stabilisation (2 axes — not 5-axis). NP-FW50 battery (~500 shots CIPA). 506g with battery and card. Sony A-mount (SLT translucent mirror).
The A37 uses Sony's SLT (Single Lens Translucent) architecture: a fixed semi-transparent mirror directs ~30% of light to a phase-detect AF sensor continuously while the remainder reaches the imaging sensor, enabling phase-detect AF during live view and video — unlike traditional DSLR mirror systems that black out during live view. The 2-axis SteadyShot provides basic camera-motion compensation.
On the used market the Sony SLT-A37 is very affordable as a vintage Sony A-mount entry-level body. Condition checks: NP-FW50 battery health, SteadyShot operation, translucent mirror cleanliness. 2-axis stabilisation only. Compatible with Sony A-mount lenses.
