Sony's entry-level A-mount DSLR — the A380 with 14.2MP sensor and SteadyShot.
The Sony A380 is an entry-level APS-C DSLR from 2009 featuring a 14.2MP CCD sensor with Sony's SteadyShot INSIDE body stabilisation. Positioned slightly above the A230, it added a tilting LCD screen and higher resolution. The SteadyShot stabilisation works with any A-mount lens — a significant advantage over unstabilised competitors.
Image quality from the 14.2MP CCD sensor is decent for the era with pleasant colour rendition. SteadyShot INSIDE stabilises any mounted lens. The tilting LCD provides flexible composition angles. 9-point AF system. 2.5fps continuous shooting. No video capability. The CCD sensor provides characteristic warm colour rendering that some photographers prefer.
Sony A mount. Weight is approximately 490 grams body only. Build quality is entry-level consumer. The tilting LCD was an upgrade over the A230. Optical viewfinder with pentamirror. CompactFlash and Memory Stick storage. The SteadyShot body stabilisation is genuinely useful with manual focus vintage A-mount and adapted lenses.
Very cheap on the used market. Check sensor, shutter, and tilting screen hinge. Thoroughly outdated. The SteadyShot stabilisation with any A-mount lens remains the most useful feature. Only of interest at extremely low prices as a basic body for testing A-mount or adapted lenses.
