Sony's most affordable APS-C mirrorless — 20.1MP with WiFi and NFC in ultra-compact body.
The Sony A5000 launched in 2014 as Sony's most affordable mirrorless camera, using a 20.1MP APS-C sensor in the smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens body Sony had made. It targeted smartphone upgraders wanting better image quality.
The 20.1MP APS-C sensor delivers good image quality — identical to the NEX-3N. 25-point contrast-detect AF. 3.5fps burst. Full HD 1080p video. WiFi and NFC for easy smartphone sharing. Simple auto-focused operation.
Ultra-compact body at 269g — one of the lightest APS-C cameras. 3-inch tilting LCD for selfies. No EVF — screen only. WiFi and NFC. Built-in flash. Sony E-mount. Single microSD/SD card slot. USB 2.0.
Available used for almost nothing. The A6000 is vastly better with faster AF and EVF. The A5000 lacks an EVF which limits serious use. The tilting selfie screen was aimed at social media users. Only useful as an ultra-cheap APS-C body for E-mount lenses.
