Sony's compact APS-C with touch and hybrid AF — A5000 successor with improved focusing.
The Sony Alpha A5100 was released approximately 2014 as an ultra-compact APS-C mirrorless camera in the Alpha E-mount range, featuring a 24.3MP sensor in Sony's smallest E-mount body at launch. The A5100 was notable for including Sony's phase-detect AF system in a compact body without an EVF. Sony E mount.
24.3MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor. 179-point hybrid (phase + contrast) AF. 6fps continuous. 1080p/60fps video. Flip-up LCD (180°). Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. At approximately 224g body only. Sony E mount. No EVF.
The hybrid AF system was a key feature at launch — phase-detect AF on an APS-C Sony mirrorless at this price and size was uncommon in 2014. The 180° flip-up LCD enables selfie and vlogging use. The extremely compact body (224g) sacrifices the electronic viewfinder present in the A6000 series.
On the used market the Sony A5100 is an affordable compact APS-C mirrorless camera. Condition checks: flip-up LCD hinge, Sony E mount contacts, AF performance (test phase-detect tracking), battery health (NP-FW50), sensor for dust. No EVF — LCD only.
