Sony's most advanced APS-C mirrorless with AI autofocus and 4K 120fps video.
The Sony Alpha A6700 was announced in July 2023 as Sony's top APS-C E-mount mirrorless body, the first APS-C model to use the NP-FZ100 battery shared with the full-frame A7 series — providing substantially better battery endurance than the NP-FW50 used in earlier APS-C bodies. It brought 4K/120fps slow-motion recording, 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, and AI-powered subject recognition across seven subject categories to the APS-C system. Dust and moisture sealing over a magnesium alloy frame extended the body's weather resistance beyond previous APS-C Sony models.
The 26MP APS-C BSI CMOS sensor pairs with the BIONZ XR processor. The 759-point phase-detection AF system covers 93% of the frame for stills; 495 points cover video tracking. AI subject recognition operates across humans, animals, birds, insects, aircraft, and vehicles simultaneously. Burst shooting runs at 11fps with continuous AF and exposure tracking. 4K video records at up to 120fps; 1080p at up to 240fps. The 5-axis IBIS is rated at 5 stops. Battery life approximately 570 shots using the NP-FZ100, body weight approximately 493g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The A6700's practical advances over the A6600 are substantial: the NP-FZ100 battery nearly doubles usable shot capacity over the NP-FW50's approximately 360 shots; 4K/120fps enables 5× slow motion at full resolution; AI subject recognition extends reliable tracking to wildlife, vehicle, and aircraft categories beyond human face detection. The 5-stop IBIS provides meaningful handheld stability without requiring OIS lenses. The magnesium alloy body with dust and moisture sealing extends the working envelope for outdoor and professional field use.
The A6700 is the current top Sony APS-C E-mount body and holds value accordingly. Condition checks: IBIS operation, AF tracking response in subject recognition modes, and single card slot contacts. The NP-FZ100 battery is shared with the A7 series — spares, chargers, and battery grips are widely available within the Sony ecosystem. The Sony A6600 is available at lower prices with IBIS but without 4K/120fps or AI subject recognition. Compatible with all Sony E-mount APS-C and full-frame FE lenses; FE lenses apply a 1.5x APS-C crop.
