Sony's budget APS-C SLT camera — 24.2MP with translucent mirror, 8fps burst, and in-body stabilisation.
The Sony Alpha A68 (ILCA-68) was released in 2016 as a mid-range APS-C SLT body, featuring a 24.2MP Exmor APS CMOS sensor and continuous shooting up to 8fps (high-speed crop mode). 1080/60i (interlaced) video. NP-FM500H battery. At approximately 610g with battery. Sony A-mount.
24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor (23.5×15.6mm). Video: 1080i/60 (interlaced — not 1080p/60fps); also 1080p/30fps, 720p/60fps. 8fps continuous in high-speed mode (approximately 6MP JPEG crop); 5fps at full 24MP resolution (continuous Hi). 4D FOCUS AF. NP-FM500H battery. Approximately 610g with battery. Sony A-mount.
The SLT translucent mirror enables the A68's continuous AF at 8fps: the fixed mirror passes light simultaneously to the image sensor and the phase-detection AF module, maintaining tracking between frames. The 8fps high-speed mode crops the frame to approximately 6MP — full-resolution continuous is 5fps. The 1080/60i output is interlaced, not progressive; progressive 1080p is available at 30fps.
On the used market the Sony A68 is affordable as a mid-range APS-C SLT body. Condition checks: NP-FM500H battery health, AF tracking function, A-mount contacts. 1080p/60fps not available (1080i/60 only). Compatible with all Sony A-mount lenses.
