Sony's mainstream full-frame hybrid — 33MP, 759-point AF, 4K 60p, dual cards, IBIS.
The Sony A7 IV (2021) replaced the hugely popular A7 III with a 33MP BSI sensor, real-time tracking AF, and 4K 60p video. It positions as Sony's mainstream full-frame for photographers and videographers wanting a capable all-rounder.
33MP delivers a useful resolution bump for cropping while keeping strong high-ISO to about ISO 12800. 759-point phase-detect AF covers 94% of frame with Eye AF for humans, animals, birds. 10fps mechanical burst. IBIS 5.5 stops.
Sony E-mount. Dual cards — one CFexpress Type A plus one SD. Articulating touchscreen, 3.69M-dot OLED EVF, USB-C with power delivery. Improved menu system from A7S III. Weather sealing improved over A7 III. 658g body.
Increasingly available used. Check shutter count, test all AF modes on moving subjects, verify both card slots. The A7 III remains great value if 24MP suffices. Firmware updates improve AF — ensure latest version.
