Sony's compact 61MP full-frame mirrorless with AI autofocus in a rangefinder body.
The Sony Alpha A7CR was released in September 2023 as a compact high-resolution variant of the A7R V, placing the 61MP full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor in a significantly smaller and lighter body comparable in size to the A7C. The A7CR brings the A7R V's 61MP resolution and 693-point phase-detection AF to the compact rangefinder-style form factor, alongside a flip-out screen and IBIS. It is aimed at photographers who want the highest available Sony FE resolution without the larger A7R V chassis.
The 61MP full-frame BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor pairs with the BIONZ XR processor. Real-time tracking AF covers 693 phase-detection points with AI subject recognition for humans, animals, insects, vehicles, and aircraft. Burst shooting runs at 8fps with mechanical shutter and 7fps with electronic shutter at full 61MP resolution. 4K video records at 30fps from the full sensor or 60fps in APS-C crop; 10-bit 4:2:2 internal. 5-axis IBIS. Battery life approximately 490 shots via EVF using the NP-FZ100, body weight approximately 515g with battery and card, single SD UHS-II slot.
The 61MP in a compact body enables the A7CR's practical use case: photographers who want maximum resolution for landscape, architecture, and studio work but travel light. At 515g the A7CR is approximately 200g lighter than the A7R V while sharing its sensor. The single card slot is the primary professional workflow limitation versus the A7R V's dual-slot design. The 61MP files provide 5× crop headroom at the sensor's full resolution before approaching the 24MP threshold of the standard A7 IV.
On the used market the A7CR is a 2023 product at high-resolution Sony FE pricing. Condition checks: IBIS operation, single SD slot contacts, NP-FZ100 battery health, and flip-out screen hinge. The A7R V provides dual card slots and a larger body for professional redundancy at a premium. The NP-FZ100 is the standard Sony full-frame mirrorless battery. Compatible with all Sony FE-mount full-frame and APS-C E-mount lenses.
