Sony's original full-frame compact — 24.3MP with Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2 in a pocketable body.
The Sony Cyber-shot RX1 was released in late 2012 as the first-ever compact camera with a full-frame sensor and a fixed prime lens — a 35mm f/2 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* lens. Designed for professional-quality images in a pocket-sized compact. Fixed lens — no interchangeable mount.
24.3MP full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor. Fixed Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens. ISO 100-25600. 1080p/60fps video. No built-in electronic viewfinder. At approximately 482g. Fixed prime — no interchangeable mount.
The RX1 established a new product category at launch: a full-frame sensor in a compact body with a fixed prime lens — comparable in sensor to the Sony A99 but without interchangeable lenses or a mirror box. The fixed 35mm f/2 Zeiss lens provides high image quality; the camera's limitation is the fixed focal length. Succeeded by the RX1R (anti-aliasing filter removed) and RX1R II (42MP sensor).
On the used market the Sony RX1 is a premium fixed-lens full-frame compact. Condition checks: fixed lens front element for marks (replacing the Zeiss lens is not an option), sensor for dust, pop-up flash function, battery health (NP-BX1). Fixed 35mm prime — no interchangeable mount.
