Sony's second-gen RX100 with tilting screen and WiFi — 1-inch sensor with f/1.8-4.9 Zeiss zoom.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II was released in 2013 as a premium compact featuring a 20.2MP 1-inch BSI CMOS sensor and Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 zoom. 1080/60fps video. Multi Interface Shoe for external accessories. At 281g with battery.
20.2MP 1-inch BSI CMOS. Zeiss 28-100mm equivalent, f/1.8 (wide) to f/4.9 (tele). 1080/60fps; 1080/24fps. Multi Interface Shoe (hot shoe with accessory extensions). Tilting LCD. NP-BX1 battery. At 281g. Fixed zoom — no interchangeable mount.
The RX100 II added BSI (Back-Side Illuminated) CMOS over the original RX100's front-illuminated sensor: BSI improves low-light sensitivity and dynamic range. The Multi Interface Shoe was added versus the original RX100 (which had no hot shoe), enabling external flash and microphone accessories. The f/1.8 wide aperture on a 1-inch sensor provides meaningful selective focus capability for a compact.
On the used market the Sony RX100 II is very affordable as a 1-inch BSI compact. Condition checks: NP-BX1 battery health, Zeiss zoom mechanism, tilting LCD hinge, sensor for hot pixels. Fixed 28-100mm zoom — no interchangeable mount.
