Sony's updated RX100 V — minor revision with improved processing, same 24-70mm f/1.8 Zeiss zoom.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VA (Mark 5A) was released approximately 2018 as a cost-reduced version of the RX100 V, sharing the same 20.1MP 1-inch BSI CMOS sensor and 4K/30fps capability. Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8. At 299g.
20.1MP 1-inch BSI Exmor R CMOS. Zeiss 24-70mm f/1.8 (wide) to f/2.8 (tele) equivalent. 4K/30fps; 1080p/120fps. Optical SteadyShot. Pop-up EVF. NP-BX1 battery. At 299g. Fixed zoom — no interchangeable mount.
The RX100 VA differs from the RX100 V primarily in omitting the 1000fps super slow motion mode and HFR (High Frame Rate) settings available in the V — the core 4K/30fps and fast-AF capabilities are otherwise identical. The BSI Exmor R sensor with f/1.8-2.8 Zeiss zoom provides improved performance over earlier RX100 models. The pop-up EVF enables bright-light composition.
On the used market the Sony RX100 VA is affordable as a 1-inch BSI compact. Condition checks: NP-BX1 battery health, pop-up EVF mechanism, Zeiss zoom mechanism. Note: VA lacks 1000fps vs V. Fixed 24-70mm zoom — no interchangeable mount.
