Sony's budget 2014 Cyber-shot compact — 20.1MP CCD, 26-156mm equiv 6x zoom, 720p video, pocket-light at 111g.
The Sony DSC-W810 was an entry-level Cyber-shot W-series compact announced in January 2014 alongside the W830. It sat at the very bottom of Sony's compact range, aimed at budget point-and-shoot buyers, and was one of the last CCD-sensor Cyber-shots to stay on sale.
It packs a 20.1-megapixel 1/2.3in Super HAD CCD and a 6x Sony zoom equivalent to 26-156mm at f/3.5-6.5 into a 111g body. There is a 2.7in 230k-dot LCD, electronic SteadyShot, Intelligent Auto with scene modes and 360-degree Sweep Panorama, 720p Motion JPEG video, and Memory Stick Duo family card support. Power is a rechargeable NP-BN pack rated around 200 shots.
This is a simple, genuinely pocketable snapshot camera for beginners or as a lightweight carry-everywhere. Controls are fully automatic with no manual exposure modes, and the slow lens plus electronic-only stabilisation limit it in low light, but in daylight it delivers detailed 20MP files with classic CCD colour.
Used examples are plentiful and cheap; check the NP-BN battery holds charge and that the USB charging lead or AC adaptor is present. Confirm which memory card the seller includes, as the W810 uses Sony's Memory Stick Duo formats per Sony's own spec sheet (some regional variants also handle microSD). Inspect the lens for stuck blades and the screen for scratches.
