Sony's APS-C kit zoom for the A-mount DSLR system — basic 27-105mm equivalent range with smooth operation.
The Sony DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 launched in 2006 as the standard kit lens for Sony's early A-mount DSLR cameras including the A100. Covering 27-105mm equivalent, it provided a basic but functional zoom range for the entry-level Sony DSLR system.
Optical quality is typical for a kit lens — acceptable centre sharpness but soft in corners and at the long end. The DT designation means it is designed for APS-C and will vignette on full-frame. Autofocus is driven by the camera body's screw-drive motor.
Sony A-mount with 55mm filter thread. Approximately 235g — lightweight. No image stabilisation — relies on in-body SteadyShot where available. APS-C coverage only. Minimum focus distance 38cm. Plastic build with metal mount.
Very cheap used — often included free with camera bodies. A-mount is discontinued, limiting future lens investment. The Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM replaced it with a built-in AF motor. Only useful for existing A-mount camera owners as a basic walkaround.
